J’khand: Sick child dies on mother’s lap as she walked 40km after hospital denies ambulance
Ranchi, August 19: Even when the outrage over the death of more than a 100 children at Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly due to lack of supply of oxygen is yet to die down, here comes the story of a mother in Jharkhand, who carried her sick child on her lap and walked 40km from hospital to home.
One more case of non-availability of medical care which is surely going to send shivers down your spine. After Sardar Hospital in Gumla, where the three-year-old child was undergoing treatment, denied an ambulance to the woman, she decided to carry the child on her lap and walk 40km back to home from hospital.
Unfortunately, the mother's herculean attempt to bring back the child home did not succeed as the toddler breathed his last on his mother's lap during the course of the 40km long journey.
"Gumla (Jharkhand): A three-year old died on his mother's lap while being taken home 40km on foot after the hospital allegedly refused an ambulance," reported ANI.
The shocking incident took place on Friday. The hospital authorities allegedly refused to provide Sarita Oraon, a widow, with an ambulance to return to her home which was 40km from the hospital.
The hospital authorities declined to take any responsibility for the death of the child.
"The child was being treated here and not referred to any other hospital. Later we found his mother had taken him away," said Dr RN Yadav, a senior official of the hospital.
Even the police did not come to the rescue of the distraught mother. "I saw a woman with the child on the road. People had gathered around her who helped her financially to get a tempo home," a police official was quoted as saying by ANI.
