J&K: Encounter breaks out between terrorists and security forces in Kupwara
Srinagar, July 19: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces on Thursday in the frontir district of Kupwara. No casualties have been reported so far.
"Encounter at Batpora in Handwara. SFs (Security forces) (are) on job," police said on Twitter.
Meanwhile, reports said that two to three militants have been surrounded by the forces.
In another incident on Wednesday, terrorists hurled hand grenade at a police post in Watergam area of Sopore district. Giving a befitting reply, the security personnel retaliated with firing and simultaneously launched a search operation in the area. The incidents came weeks after a CRPF jawan was injured after terrorists hurled grenade on patrol party in Hyderpora area of Budgam district.
Union Minister Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, while replying to a written question in Rajya Sabha, said that 100 militants and 43 security personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the first six months of this year.
