J&K: 11 killed as vehicle carrying Chandi Mata pilgrims rolls down in Kishtwar
Srinagar, Aug 21: In yet another major accident, 11 people were killed on Tuesday after a vehicle carrying yatris to Machail Mata rolled down in river Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district. Only a 5-year-old child managed to survive.
Speaking to ANI, J&K DGP SP Vaid said,''Another major accident in Kishtwar, a vehicle carrying yatris to Machail Mata rolled down in river Chenab 28 kilometres from Kishtwar towards Padder, 5 yr child lone survivor, about dozen feared dead.''
The 43-day Machail yatra started on July 25 and so far over 1.50 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the goddess Durga shrine.
This was the second accident in the area in less than 24 hours. Seven people were killed and 11 injured when their vehicles were hit by a landslide on Monday.Police said a minibus and a car plying from Thathri to Kishtwar were caught under the landside at Kuligarh around 11 am. Most of the boulders fell on the minibus, crushing it.
