The I-T department attached the property a day after his brother, Tejashwi Yadav, younger son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, has been made the star campaigner by party ally Congress for the Karnataka assembly elections.

The Income Tax Department has charged six members of Lalu Yadav's family, including his son and Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti, with owning benami property under a tough law that attracts seven years in prison and a hefty fine for those found guilty.

The I-T department had attached 12 plots of RJD chief Lalu Yadav's family members including daughter Misa Bharti, her husband Shailesh, sister Ragini and Chanda, Bihar deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi in 2017. I-T dept also had slapped charges under Benami Transactions Act against them and served attachment notice under the stringent act for assets worth over Rs 9 crore.

The tax department is investigating allegations of corrupt land deals worth Rs. 1,000 crore and tax evasion against the Yadav family. The others it has charged under the Benami Transactions Act today are Misa Bharti's husband Shailesh Kumar and sisters Chanda and Ragini Yadav.
