#ISupportOddEven: Does Delhi fully endorse vehicle rationing scheme?
On Friday, the hashtag--#ISupportOddEven--trended on Twitter with many people expressing their commitment to work towards reducing air pollution in the national capital.
New Delhi, Nov 10: It is the same old story, every winter Delhi is hit by high level of air pollution, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has a "favourite" solution--bring back odd-even vehicle rationing scheme.
On Thursday, the AAP government announced that the odd-even formula, which allows a vehicle with a registration number ending with an odd number to ply on roads on odd dates and vice-versa, will be brought back for a few days in the national capital.
The scheme, this time, will be enforced in the national capital for a five-day period, starting from Monday, as an emergency measure to tackle severe air pollution that has hit Delhi since Tuesday.
The AAP first mooted the idea of odd-even vehicle rationing formula in December 2015 and it was implemented in 2016 amid massive protest by the public.
In fact, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday questioned the Delhi government's rationale behind implementing the odd-even vehicle rationing scheme.
On Friday, the hashtag--#ISupportOddEven--trended on Twitter with many people expressing their commitment to work towards reducing air pollution in the national capital. Others, however, opposed the move, saying it's an attempt to avoid dealing with the real problem.
