Lucknow, Aug 1: The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), an ally of the BJP, has reportedly offered the ticket to expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. The seat is currently held by SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav. Amar Singh used to be a close aide of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"Amar Singh is a big leader, if he wishes to contest the 2019 polls from Azamgarh, and if the seat comes to our quota, we would gladly offer it to him. Also, SBSP's doors are always open for him. However, the sharing of seats among NDA partners is yet to be decided," SBSP chief and UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar reportedly said.

Amar Singh had in July Yogi Adityanath, triggering speculation in political circles that he might be planning to join the BJP.

Rumour is already rife that Singh, who was a Rajya Sabha MP from the Samajwadi Party but was expelled from the Akhilesh Yadav-led outfit last year, has been toying with the idea of embracing the saffron party. Singh recently said that he was not averse to joining the BJP, but he hadn't got any invite from it, nor had he applied to it.

On Monday, Amar Singh hit out at the Samajwadi Party and the BSP in Uttar Pradesh by dubbing them as "castiest" and said he would prefer to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
