ED permitted to question Indrani Mukerjea in INX Media case
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had directed Karti to join the CBI probe.
The Enforcement Directorate has been granted permission to question Indrani Mukerjea in the INX Media case. A Delhi court permitted the ED to conduct a custodial interrogation.
The ED wants to examine the INX Media Director, Indrani over alleged manipulation of a tax probe against the media group that also involves Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P Chidamabaram.
Karti Chidambaram is accused of getting kickbacks through a company "indirectly controlled" by him, allegedly to scuttle a probe by the revenue department against INX Media, then controlled by Indrani and her husband Peter Mukerjea.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had directed Karti to join the CBI probe. It had set aside a stay order of the Madras High Court which had put on hold a Look Out Circular against him. The court observed that Karti cannot travel abroad if he does not join the probe.
