Interpol rejects RCN against arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari citing political vendetta

Bhandari had gone missing in November 2016 after an FIR was registered against him under the OSA.

The Delhi police has failed to secure a Red-Corner Notice from the Interpol against arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. This comes close on the heels of the Interpol refusing to issue an RCN against Lalit Modi.

The Delhi police through the Central Bureau of Investigation had moved the Interpol to get an RCN issued against Bhandari who is currently in London's Mayfair area. The Interpol in its statement said that the case registered under sections of the Official Secrets Act appeared to be of 'political nature' and did not fulfil the necessary criteria for issuance of a red notice.

Bhandari, according to the Delhi police, had fled India through Nepal. He had gone missing in November 2016 after an FIR was registered against him under the OSA. The case was registered after the police had recovered confidential documents relating to the defence ministry at his home in Defence Colony.

The documents according to investigators contained weapon procurement plans and also purchase of six mid-air refuelling aircraft for the Indian Air Force. These documents had been placed before the Defence Acquisition Council.
