India's renowned celebrity chef Tarla Dalal passes away

Mumbai, Nov 6: India's first "masterchef" Tarla Dalal, who gave Indian cuisine a distinct and unique flavour, passed away on Wednesday, Nov 6 at her South Mumbai residence.

According to reports, she died at 7 am, following a massive heart attack at the age of 77 in her apartment on Napean Sea Road in South Mumbai.

Besides being a wonderful cook, Tarla Dalal was a noted-writer of various cook books. During her long career, she hosted various cookery programmes, where she helped many houswives how to prepare unique dishes for every occasion.

In 2007, Dalal became the proud recipient of the presitigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. From hosting food shows to running food magazines and books, Tarla Dalal was a popular name among those who are fond of cooking and experimenting with different recipies in kitchen.

Dalal, who began her carrer in 1966, authored her first book "The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking" in 1974, that went on to become one of the best-sellers. Since then, she has written over 100 books.
