India's daily Covid-19 cases drop to 30,549; 422 deaths recorded

New Delhi, Aug 03: India reported 30,549 new cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 3,17,26,507. The death toll due to the viral disease shot up to 4,25,195 with 422 more people succumbing to it, a government statement said on Tuesday.

The number of active cases has gone up to 4,04,958, accounting for 1.28 per cent of the total caseload, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.38 per cent, the data showed. In the last 24 hours, 38,887 patients recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,08,96,354.

India saw a decrease of 8,760 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.85 per cent. The weekly positivity rate stood at 2.39 per cent.

Even as India's Covid situation has seen a steady fall, as many as 13 states have witnessed a surge in Coronavirus infections last week. Kerala, hailed globally for its covid management has now become a national concern. The state has been reporting half of India's new Covid-19 cases for the past few days.

The R-factor, which indicates the speed at which COVID-19 infection is spreading in the country, is climbing steadily fuelling worries about the pandemic rearing its head again.

An 'R' value of 1 means , every infected person to at least one more person. If the R-value is lesser than one, it means the number of newly infected people is lower than the number of infected people in the preceding period which means the disease incidence is going down.

A total of 16,49,295 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Sunday, taking the total number of tests conducted so far in the country to 47,12,94,789.

India''s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

The caseload crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore on May 4 and 3 crore on June 23.

Meanwhile, more than 47.85 crore vaccine doses have been administered since India's inoculation drive began on January 21.
