In view of heat wave, Telangana advances summer holidays

As Hyderabad and other parts of the Telangana reel under the heat wave, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao feels that it is not safe for the children to go to school.

Hyderabad, Apr 19: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday directed that summer holidays of schools should start from Wednesday, five days ahead of schedule, in view of oppressive heat in many parts of the state.

The CM felt that it was not desirable to send the children to school in this weather, a release from the chief minister's office said in Hyderabad.

The chief minister asked the education department to ensure that summer holidays are declared for government as well as private schools from Wednesday, five days in advance.

Hyderabad and several other parts of the state are reeling under heat wave, with mercury soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in some places.

The highest temperature recorded in the state on Tuesday was 44.5 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD. Maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by two to four degrees at many places, it said.
