Patna, Oct 17: First came note ban or demonetisation last year. Now, brace up for "khota sikka" (counterfeit currency) campaign initiated by the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar, in association with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), to help the state fight against the menace of dowry.

While the Narendra Modi government aimed at getting rid of black money, corruption and funding for terror groups through demonetisation, "khota sikka" campaign started in Bihar--which has the dubious distinction of recording second highest number of dowry-related deaths next only to Uttar Pradesh--plans to fight against the rampant spread of social problem called, dowry.

In an interesting video, almost like a Bollywood film, the anti-dowry campaign showcases how the father of a prospective bride snubbed the family of the boy who came with a marriage proposal, but ended up asking for dowry (a common demand raised by almost all families of boys in various parts of India asking the father of the girl to give money, jewelleries and properties before the solemnisation of a wedding).

The girl's father called the boy a "khota sikka" as his family demanded dowry. However, instead of taking offence at the girl's father's jibe, the boy stood up and protested against his father's dowry demand and stated that he was not a "khota sikka" and is against dowry himself.

Later in the video, the boy can be seen seeking blessing from his father, who also agreed with his son's stand against dowry.

After banning liquor, chief minister Kumar is now on a mission to make Bihar dowry free. Recently, he told reporters that those families that invite him for weddings had to state that no engage of dowry has taken place between the bride and groom's families.

During the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on October 2, the CM had launched a campaign against dowry and child marriage and had appealed to people to keep away from attending a marriage where dowry has played a role in fixing the match.

Now, we must say the "khota sikka" campaign of Bihar CM is likely to win over people's hearts because of its noble intention, unlike note ban which proved to a dud bomb from the Modi government's kitty.
