(In Pics) When 'Arun' (Jaitley) brought a 'Ray' of Hope in Telangana
Telangana, July 26: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's presence in Telangana on July 24 exuded a ray of hope among farmers as he identified the trials that they go through during drought-like situation. He said that it was rather unfortunate that India being an agricultural country, cannot provide sustainance to its farmers.
Explaining his concern, he said, "Agriculture barely gives them subsistence. They are about 55 per cent of population, but the sector contributes only 16 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product. We can't afford to have this situation. This can create inequalities."
He was in Telangana to inaugurate the 40-acre Hyderabad campus of Symbiosis International University, which is located 60 kilometres from Hyderabad. He had a word of advise for the students too.
Speaking on the industrial sector, Jaitley said that India has missed being a part of three manufacturing revolutions, the latest being the low-cost manufacturing revolution.
Emphasizing on the need for strong educational institutions, Jaitley said India has the potential to be at the top of the economy because of its young population, visa vie the depleting youth in the developed nations. This resource, coupled with, ace educational institutions can help India to the top.
