In its remand application, the police said that they had to question Junaid in connection with several cases which included blasts in Delhi and other places. The court granted the police custody of Junaid for 25 days.

Junaid was arrested by the police after a chase that lasted ten years. He had fled from India following the Batla House encounter.

Details regarding the elusive Junaid came up when the police questioned Abdul Subhan one of the founding members of the Indian Mujahideen who was arrested last month.

Junaid was part of the core team of the Indian Mujahideen during 2008. The IM was involved in a series of blasts which included the ones at Ahmedabad, Delhi and Bangalore. The Batla House Encounter code named Operation Batla House took place in the backdrop of five blasts carried out by the IM.

The police had picked up information about key operatives Mohammad Atif Ameen, Mohammad Sajid and Junaid being present at the spot. While the police gunned down Sajid and Ameen, Junaid however managed to escape. Encounter specialist and Delhi police inspector, Mohan Chand Sharma was however martyred in the incident.

The arrest is an important one as Junaid would help the police understand the IM further. When Subhan was arrested, he had told the police that he had come down to India from Nepal to revive the outfit. He also said that he was in touch with several other operatives who had fled the country in a bid to strengthen and revive the IM.
