New Delhi, July 22: Whether the Central Bureau of Investigation can arrest Dayanidhi Maran, former Union Telecom Minister or not will be decided tomorrow by the Madras High Court. CBI officials tell OneIndia that there is a lot of information that Maran had hidden in connection with the illegal telephone exchange scam.

It is only he who has the relevant information and documents. There is a lot of material and information that is exclusively known only to him, but he has refused to share it with us, the CBI officer also informed.

Cancel Maran's anticipatory bail:

The CBI had questioned Maran for nearly three days. CBI officials say that they are not happy with the information that he has given them. He has not shared anything relevant with us. There were various opportunities that we had accorded to him, but he refused to cooperate.

Maran prior to being questioned by the CBI had approached the Madras High Court and sought anticipatory bail. The anticipatory bail gave Maran the protection against an arrest by the CBI. The CBI which questioned him says that they have sought cancellation of his anticipatory bail in the event of him not cooperating with the investigation.

We have relevant information that he had allegedly used his official position to have high speed lines installed in his home which in turn benefitted the transmission of Sun TV. We have told the Madras High Court to cancel his anticipatory bail with immediate effect. The matter will be heard by a single judge bench of the Madras High Court tomorrow.

Time was granted to submit documents:

The CBI says that when they had questioned Maran a couple of weeks back, he was being extremely evasive. He continued to argue that he had done no wrong. However, when we asked him for certain documents, he assured that he would furnish them.

He was given time until last Monday to furnish the documents, but he never did so. We, in fact, waited another day with the hope that he would give us more details but he never turned up. This is when we decided to move the Madras High Court seeking cancellation of his anticipatory bail. As long as he enjoys anticipatory bail he cannot be arrested, the CBI officer informed.

When the Madras High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Maran it had noted that the CBI is free to move the court seeking cancellation in case he does not cooperate with the investigation. Maran had infact assured to cooperate with the investigation when he had approached the Madras High Court in the first place.
