Over 160 senior officials, HODs, professors and the director were present in the meeting, after which it was decided that students will be expelled.

During couselling session, many students admitted that they were finding it difficult to cope up with the studies pressure. Institute officials also claimed that some students were 'enjoying the first year of college'.

Some students claimed that they were never warned by the Institute that if they score less than 5 CGPA, they will be expelled.

In June this year, students were issued a notice of expulsion. Expelled students are in shock and they feel it is an unjustified action.

Students' Affair Council of IIT Roorkee said that the institute should reconsider its decision.

At the time of admission, parents had also signed a declaration stating that if their children do not score upto the mark, then their poor performance could result in their removal from the institute.

In the past, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur have also expelled the under-performing students, but they were re-admitted.
