IIT Kharagpur professor drowns while taking selfie with son

In yet another selfie death, an IIT Kharagpur professor drowned into the water body after trying to rescue his 4-year-old son in West Midnapore in Bengal on Sunday. The incident took place at Golberia area in Kharagpur on Sunday.

Joydip Bhattacharjee who is an assistant professor in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture at IIT Kharagpur had taken his two kids for some sight seeing near the campus.

It is learnt that one of the children had slipped into the water body while taking selfie. In order to rescue him, Bhattacharya lost his balance and fell into the gorge.

According to the police officer, Bharati Ghosh said that Bhattacharya had died of his own carelessness.

A resident of Asansol, Bhattacharya had joined IIT Kharagpur in 2013. He had purchased a house at Gholgoria where he had come on Sunday with his son and two-year-old daughter Sirin.

According to locals said that they saw the fter they rushed to the spot on hearing the sound of the professor falling, they could only see his son who they rescued but Bhattacharya had drowned and could not be found.

Bhattacharjee's body was fished out and was taken to Kharagpur Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police recovered the body of Bhattacharjee from the gorge an hour after the son was rescued. While conducting a search, the rescue team initially failed to find any trace of the professor as it was
