Icy winds sweep Delhi, 29 trains delayed due to fog

New Delhi, Jan 5: Mercury hovered close to normal levels in the national capital today but icy winds ensured that Delhiites continue to feel the chill despite a sunny day.

The MeT department has predicted dense fog in the national capital tomorrow which would give way to a mainly clear sky by afternoon.


Early morning fog disrupted rail operations, delaying 29 trains to and from the capital. According to the MeT department, the minimum temperature settled at 7.8 degrees Celsius which was one notch above normal for this part of the year but considerably down from yesterday's minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature today settled at 20.7 degrees Celsius, which is normal. Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius.

Humidity levels oscillated between 47 and 94 per cent during the day. Shallow fog was witnessed in the national capital in the early hours and visibility was recorded at 1,000 meters at 8:30 AM.

As per Northern Railways, early morning fog delayed 29 north-bound trains while the departure time of three trains had to be rescheduled.

On account of foggy condition in the North-East region, Railways have already announced cancellation of 15 trains including Dibrugarh-Rajdhani, Ludhiana Shatabadi, Garhwal Express and Mahanada Express, till February 16.

The city did not receive any rain in the last 24 hours. Weatherman has predicted a mainly clear sky during the day tomorrow with maximum and minimum temperature expected to settle around 20 and 9 degrees Celsius tomorrow.
