Politically irrelevant and out of the thick of action, Sasikala Natarajan has decided to pick up a book and learn how to speak English. Lodged in the Bengaluru central jail after being sentenced to four years imprisonment in the disproportionate assets case, Sasikala has requested jail authorities to provide her an English tutor.

The jail authorities are yet to take a call on the same. The rules do not bar a convict undergoing simple imprisonment from taking up a course. A decision on this matter would be taken up soon.

It is a well-known fact that Sasikala did try to become Jayalalithaa. She started to dress like her, sport a hair-style like her and even show the victory sign like her. Jayalalithaa had a different poise to her. She was fluent with English and this helped her converse with the media in Delhi. The media in Delhi too is floored by those who speak good English.

The question now is whether Sasikala is attempting to impress the national media. Does she feel by learning English she will be taken more seriously by the media in Delhi.

Currently, she can read only Tamil. She reads Tamil newspapers in jail to keep herself updated with the happenings around the country.
