I-T dept crackdown on bureaucrats in UP, Uttarakhand
An illegal collusion between a contractor and a PSU official also came to light during raids in Uttarakhand.
The officials of the Income Tax Department have reportedly conducted several raids on properties owned by the government officials and stumbled upon crores of rupees of unaccounted cash in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The IT department officials have raided 20 locations in the past two days in both the states.
Reports
say
that
during
the
raid
at
the
premises
of
a
local
body
chairman
in
Siddhart
Nagar,
Uttar
Pradesh,
the
officials
found
Rs
10
crore
worth
undisclosed
money.
This
crackdown
has
also
revealed
that
an
officer
in
Noida,
UP,
had
made
a
payment
towards
property
worth
Rs
two
crore
in
the
name
of
his
wife.

The IT department conducts raids whenever it has suspicion of illegal cash transactions and money being hoarded by illicit means.
Earlier in April, the IT Department carried out raids on properties belonging to a Karnataka minister as well as Karnataka Congress' women's wing president in various locations across the state.
In Belagavi, the residence of Laxmi Hebbalkar, the president of Congress' women's wing in Karnataka was raided. Karnataka Minister for Small Scale Industries, Ramesh Jarkiholi's properties in Gokak and Bengaluru were also raided. Apart from him, properties of the minister's brother, Lakhan, as well as his associate Ali, were also searched.
