Hyderabad shame: 3 puppies burnt alive; video sparks outrage

Hyderabad, July 20: In a shocking and shameful incident, three puppies were burnt to death by a group of young boys in in Patahnwadi area of Musheerabad in Hyderabad.

According to media reports, the dastardly crime was committed on July 16, when some boys allegedly tied three puppies together and then dragged the hapless animals to some distance and put them into a fire made out of jute bags and dry sticks.

When the screaming puppies tried to come out, the boys threw them back with sticks.

The shameless boys even made the video of the bone-chilling incident and uploaded it on social media sites.

The video went viral on social media and that's when the horrific and gory incident came to the media limelight. The disturbing images sparked outrage with animal lovers calling for stringent punishment to those involved.

"One of the perpetrators recorded the entire incident and is heard instructing and instigating the others to set them on fire. The recordings were recovered from a fish stall owner in Musheerabad," Shreya Paropkari, an animal rights activist, said in a complaint filed with Musheerabad Police on Tuesday, July 19.

Following the complaint, a case was filed under IPC Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc,) and relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, Sub- Inspector B Bhaskar Rao said, adding that efforts are on to nab those involved in the incident.

The news of cruelty against animals comes few days after when a dog was thrown off a roof by two MBBS students in Chennai. Both the accused were arrested and later released on bail.

Meanwhile, another incident of cruelty to animal has come to light. A video has surfaced showing a man killing a dog with an air gun, though it was not clear where or when the incident occurred, police said.

An animal rights activist approached the Nampally Police here and said he saw the video on Internet and sought necessary action, Inspector K Madhu Mohan Reddy said. "We asked him to approach the Cyber Crime Police," Reddy said.

Humane Society International Director N G Jayasimha said "This particular video was received a couple of days ago (through HSI helpline). It was uploaded on Snapchat (a popular mobile app that allows one to send videos and pictures). We are announcing a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information leading to arrest of the person in the video."
