Hyderabad: Beggar lynched by Mob over rumours on child traffickers, dies later
A transgender who was beaten by a mob in the old city area of Hyderabad late on Saturday night over rumours of the child-lifting gang on WhatsApp succumbed to injuries on Sunday.
Around 15 people were arrested after inspecting CCTV footage from the area.
The man and three others were begging in the in Chandrayangutta area in Hyderabad when some youth pelted stones at them and beat them up around midnight 27 May.
Speaking to ANI, Anjani Kumar, Commissioner of Police, said, rumours were circulating on social media, people should inform the matter to police.
Hyderabad Police has also arrested two students on charges of forwarding a video with fake information regarding kidnapping gangs operating in the city causing fear among locals.
According to police, several transgenders had come to the city from Mahbubnagar district for the ongoing Ramzan month and were seen begging in the area.
On 22 May, a 42-year old man was beaten to death by a group of villagers after they caught hold of him from a mango farm on suspicion of being a thief in Chengal village under Bheemgal police station limits of Nizamabad district.
