How these PFI/SDPI activists spread the ISIS ideology in Kerala

Activists of the Popular Front of India and SDPI have come under the scanner of the National Investigation Agency in connection with a case relating to the Islamic State. The NIA has named four persons in the charge sheet - Midlaj, Abdul Razak, Hamsa and Abdul Khayum, all residents of Kerala.

The case was originally registered at the Valapattanam police station, district Kannur on October 25, 2017. It was alleged that these members had subscribed to the ideology of the ISIS. They had made an attempt to leave Kerala and join the terror group in Syria. The NIA took over the case from the police on December 16, 2017.

NIA investigation revealed that the accused persons Midlaj, Abdul Razak and Hamsa, in pursuance to the criminal conspiracy hatched by them since 2016, along with their associates had attempted to further the objectives of ISIS by physically travelling to Syria.

Their intention was to wage a war on behalf of the ISIS against Syria

an Asiatic power at peace with Government of India. Midlaj and Abdul Razak were activists of Popular Front of India (PFI)/ Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and had collected funds besides conducting preparations in India during 2016-17, and reached Turkey through Iran, with the intention of crossing over to Syria and joining the ISIS. Midlaj and Abdul Razak (A-2) were intercepted by the Turkish authorities and deported back to India.

The investigation has also revealed that Hamsa had propagated the ideology of ISIS and recruited co-accused into the proscribed organization since 2015. Hamsa subsequently conspired with co-accused and prepared to exit India during December 2016 on hijra to Syria.
