The killing of Abu Dujana in an encounter at Kashmir was one of the most successful operations that the forces carried out. He was a Grade A++ militant and after making nearly 20 escape bids thanks to his mastery in disguise, he was finally smoked out by the security forces.

Abu Dujana

Dujana a dreaded terrorist was also a womaniser. The IGP of Kashmir, Muneer Khan said after his death that the women of Kashmir are safe now. The Army referred to him as an 'aiyaash.'

It was the same problem that Dujana had which ended in a two way split in the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. Dujana who has been active in the Valley since December 2014 decided to get married. It was this same woman that he came to meet in Pulwama when his movements were tracked and security forces launched a massive operation.

Abu Ismail the new commander of the Lashkar who masterminded the Amarnath yatra attack was upset with Dujana's ways. He felt that since the past year, Dujana had focused more on women than terrorism. When Dujana informed him about his decision to get married, Ismail was livid. He wanted him to focus on the job rather than raising a family.

Dujana who was senior to Ismail refused to listen and went ahead and married the girl. Dujana had married the woman who hails from Singoo village near Kakapora in Pulwama. The marriage took place sometime in 2016.

Ismail with his bandwagon of supporters decided to break away from Dujana. Ismail set up a rival faction in late 2016 and since then attacks were being carried out by the two factions separately. Some of their seniors tried to intervene to resolve the crisis, but attained no success.

Intelligence Bureau officials say that the recent spate of attacks carried out in 2017 were all by the Ismail faction of the Lashkar. Dujana spent more time harassing women in the past six months. The Army was right when it said he had become more of a nuisance and an 'aiyaash' in the past few months, the officer also added.
