Hot wheels! Chennai police seize super cars for illegal racing
Apparently, the cars have been creating panic among motorists and pedestrians alike, and the police allege that the east coast road has witnessed multiple accidents in the past
The Kanathur police station in Chennai attracted massive attention on Sunday as 10 imported cars including two Lamborghinis, a Ferrari and Mercedes were seen parked outside. The cars were seized by the police while their drivers, all under the age of 30, were caught racing on East Coast road.
Cars worth Rs 30 crore!
Among the cars that were seized was a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT costing around Rs 4 crore, a Lamborghini Aventador that is sold for a whopping Rs 5 crore and a Lamborghini Huracan priced at Rs 4 crore in India. The total worth of the cars was pegged at a staggering Rs 30 crore.
Negligent driving, noise pollution
Those behind the wheels were arrested for rash and negligent driving, creating panic and causing noise pollution.
Faster than a speeding bullet?
At about 7 am on Sunday, the cars were seen being allegedly raced in on the East Coast road towards Mahabalipuram at speeds of about 150 km. While such races are not uncommon on ECR, most instances are of bike races.
A history of accidents
The shrill noise of the speeding cars created panic as they raced, alleged the police. The east coast road has witnessed multiple accidents in the recent past due to speeding vehicles on the corridor. With the arrest and seizure, the police hope to put an end to illegal races on the corridor.
