Hoax call on blast near Jama Masjid
New Delhi, Aug 23: Police and security agencies were sent in a tizzy over a call which later turned out to be hoax, about a bomb blast near historic Jama Masjid in walled city, in the evening today.
"A PCR call was received at 5.17 PM today where the caller said that there had been a bomb blast and 50 people were reportedly injured. When the local police checked, the call was found to be a hoax," DCP (PCR) R K Singh said.
The caller, a man, while calling the PCR claimed that the several persons were injured in the blast. The entire area was scanned after the call although the call was found to be a hoax. Police said that the caller was traced to Seelampur.
Through the mobile number, the caller was identified as one Chaudhary Bangad and police was trying to nab him. A day after Independence Day, a hoax call about a bomb planted at Red Fort was received by the police control room.
The hoax caller, 22-year-old Hanuman Singh was arrested by police from Alwar (Rajasthan) next day.
