Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday said that there was a need for international consensus on the fight against terrorism.

Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2018 event in New Delhi, Rawat said terrorists are using systems which are highly technology enabled and transcending international borders. "We need to disrupt terrorists and their sponsors. There is a need to identify nations who are sponsors," added the Army chief.

He further said that terrorism had two sides to it militant and political. "It is important to tackle both. Many may argue that there is no point in banning political outfits since they don't indulge in terror activities directly, but we should not forget that they support it," he added.

The Army chief warned that access to militants' access to nuclear warfare could mean doom for the humanity. "The threat of nuclear and chemical weapons falling into the hands of terrorists can be a disaster for humanity," he said.

He added that there was a need to put some checks and curbs on Internet as well as social media that terrorist organisations always resort to.

"Putting some checks and curbs on the internet and social media that terrorist organisations always resort to... In a democratic country people won't like it but have to take a call on whether we want safe and secure environment or willing to accept curbs temporarily so terrorism can be dealt with," said the chief of Army.
