Hand Grenade recovered from Cooch Behar district of West Bengal
A live hand grenade was recovered from the Town Club ground, Haldibari in North Bengal on Wednesday morning.
The ground from where the hand grenade was recovered is located at a stone throw's distance from the Haldibari police station in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
On Wednesday morning local residents spotted the hand grenade lying in the undergrowth of the Town Club Ground. They immediately informed the police.
With the area located in close proximity to the Bangladesh border, the BSF guarding the Indo- Bangladesh borders, also arrived to look into the matter along with the police.
A police contingent has been posted in the area. "We are investigating the incident" stated Pravin Pradhan, Inspector in Charge of the Haldibari police station.
Incidentally, Cooch Behar once upon a time was the home of the banned militant outfit, the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO.)
The main objective of the KLO is to carve a separate Kamtapur nation comprising of 6 districts of West Bengal; 4 districts of Assam; 1 district of Bihar and 1 district of Nepal.
Cooch Behar in the past has been a witness of KLO activities. Earlier KLO militants have been arrested and arms recovered from areas bordering Assam in the Cooch Behar district.
