Hafeez Saeed is 'Sahib' for the UN; India irked
United Nations, Dec 22: India is irked by the mention of Hafeez Saeed as 'sahib' by the UN Security Council panel and hence has sought for clarification from the world body. Gary Quilan, the Chair of UN Security Council Committee, had mentioned the terrorist as 'Sahib' in an address on December 17.
The United Nations had declared the JuD as a terrorist organization in December 2008 and also Saeed who was individually designated by the UN under UNSCR 1267 in December 2008. The resolution freezes the finances and funds for entities or individuals and has prevented their entry or transit into other territories.
In fact, the United States had slapped a $10 million bounty on Saeed, the founder of LeT and his brother-in-law in April 2003. Nevertheless, Saeed roams free in Pakistan and often addresses public rallies out in the open and continues to make inflammatory statements.
