Guru Nanak Jayanti: Celebrations in India and Pakistan

Over 2,600 Sikh pilgrims from India on Thursday reached Pakistan to attend the 549th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.

Guru Nanak (1469-1539 C.E.) was the founder of the Sikhism and the first of the Sikh Gurus. His birth anniversary is celebrated worldwide on the day of Kartik Purnima as per Hindu lunar calendar.

A Sikh Jatha from India has left for Pakistan to celebrate 548th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev from Golden Temple in Amritsar on Thursday.

Over 2,600 Sikh pilgrims from India reached Pakistan to attend the 548th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.

Soon after their arrival, the pilgrims left for Janum Asthan of Baba Guru Nanak at Nankana Sahib, the Dawn reported.

The main function will be held at Nankana Sahib on Saturday, where the pilgrims will perform sacred rituals. After that, the devotees will leave for Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal.

Every year, devotees from all over the world gather at Gurdwara Punja Sahib in Hassanabdal to celebrate Baba Guru Nanak's birth anniversary

The celebrations last for more than a week during which sacred rituals are performed at the Gurdwara and sweets and langar are offered, irrespective of religious orientation.
