Govt depts to put RTI responses online sans personal info
New Delhi, Oct 7: All central government departments were today asked to put copies of RTI applications received and their responses on their websites except applicants' personal details "as they do not serve any public interest".
As per norms, all public authorities shall proactively disclose RTI applications and appeals received and their responses, on the websites maintained by them with search facility based on key words.
"It is clarified that while proactively disclosing RTI applications and appeals received and responses thereto, on their website, the personal details of RTI applicant or appellant should not be disclosed as they do not serve any public interest.
"It is further clarified that the personal details would include name, designation, address, e-mail id and telephone number including mobile number of the applicant," the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in an order issued to all central government departments.
The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, which was enacted by the UPA government, empowers a citizen to seek a time-bound reply on information related to governance.
