Govind Pansare murder case: Virendra Tawde granted bail
A Kohlapur Court on Tuesday granted bail to Virendra Tawde, an accused in the murder cases of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and activist Govind Pansare.
Tawde had in December 2016 approached the Bombay High Court seeking to be impleaded as a respondent in the petition filed by Maharashtra government seeking stay in the Pansare trial.
In November 2016, the SIT probing the Govind Pansare murder case had filed a supplementary charge sheet against Sanatan Sanstha member Virendra Tawde at a court in Kolhapur.
Tawde, earlier arrested by CBI in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case, was in September 2016 taken into custody by Kolhapur police in connection with the murder of CPI leader and rationalist Govind Pansare.
Tawde is the second accused named in Pansare murder case by the state Special Investigation Team.
While Dabholkar was murdered in Pune on August 20, 2013, Pansare was shot on February 16, 2015 in Kolhapur. He died on February 20. Prof Kalburgi was murdered on August 30 last year.
