Delhi Commission for Women had also flagged violation of human rights in Asha Kiran Home while pointing out lapses including how inmates were found to be roaming bare-bodied.
New Delhi, Feb 20: The Delhi government has decided to reconstitute the governing council of Asha Kiran Home, a facility for mentally challenged women and children where inmates were recently found to be kept in horrific conditions.
The governing council will be headed by Achal Bhagat, a senior consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist, an official said. The other 12 members of the Council will be representatives from various bodies including the Delhi Police and Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today issued a circular to the Social Welfare Department in this regard. Sisodia had earlier directed the department to prepare a note on rope in an expert panel to run the Home, where 11 inmates died within a span of two months.
In a report, the Delhi Commission for Women had also flagged violation of human rights while pointing out lapses including how inmates were found to be roaming bare-bodied.
