Gautam Bambawale appointed as next Ambassador to China
Bambawale is currently Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan.
Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Gautam Bambawale, who is currently the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, has been appointed as the next ambassador to China.
Bambawale joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1984.
From September 2007 to December 2009, Bambawale functioned as the Consul General of India in Guangzhou, China. He was then the first Consul General of India in Guangzhou.
Returning to Delhi from Guangzhou, Bambawale held charge of the position of Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs from December 2009 to July 2014. In the position, he was responsible for relations with Japan, China and South Korea amongst other countries.
Bambawale was Ambassador of India to Bhutan from August 2014. He has been High Commissioner of India to Pakistan since 12 January 2016.
