Gauri Lankesh murder: 500 CCTV footages, no concrete lead as yet
The police is examining footage from 500 CCTV cameras in a bid to crack the Gowri Lankesh murder case. Officers say that nothing concrete has emerged as yet and they are still piecing together the evidence.
For now the only confirmation that the police have is regarding the weapon. Investigations have clearly established that the journalist/activist was shot from a 7.65 mm pistol.
Another aspect that has come to light is that one of the assailant could have been a contract killer.Country made pistols are difficult for a first timer to handle. Country made pistols tend to get jammed and requires re-loading. However the killer managed to fire confidently and with ease which has led the police to believe that he could be a professional.
In addition to this the police are recoding the statements of several persons. The police had also sought help from the public for any leads into the case. They are also looking into the statements of Gauri's mother who had said that her daughter had complained about seeing strangers outside her residence.
