It is said that Lord Ganesha was created out of sandalwood paste by Goddess Parvati. This auspicious Ganesh Jayanti day is a Hindu festival, falling on the Shukla Chaturthi during the Magha Lunar Month. So, the Maghi Ganesh Jayanti is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi day, the fourth day of the waxing moon phase.

On Maghi Ganesh Jayanti 2018, devotees will also celebrate a Palkhi Yatra in Pune, Maharashtra. Lord Ganesha is worshipped on this day, and Shodashopachar Puja is conducted. Devotees further prepare special dishes for the naivedya that is prasad. The food items are prepared with til or sesame, hence the occasion of Ganesh Jayanti is also known as Til Kund Chaturthi or Tila Kunda Chavithi.
