Vellore, Nov 24: A young female monkey was brutally killed by four medical students from India's most reputed medical colleges in Vellore on Saturday.
The incident came to light when an animal activist Azar from Mumbai got an anonymous call saying a monkey was killed by four MBBS students of the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. The incident took place around 12:30 pm behind the hostel mess on Saturday. Azar altered Chennai based activist who lodged a complaint against four students in the Bagayam police.
According to eye-witnesses, the monkey entered the students' hostel room in the afternoon. The students later caught it with a blanket. The female monkey must have been just about a year old and hence not very ferocious. The accused then took the monkey to the hostel terrace and later tied up the monkey's hands, legs and neck. The monkey died out of excruciating pain. The perpetrators of this heinous act then buried the carcass behind the hostel mess.
Autopsy revealed that the monkey's neck, hands and legs were fractured since it was tied up with a phone wire and then thrashed it brutally. Moreover, the animal was stabbed with a sharp object.
The four students have been taken for questioning at the police station, said a police source. Meanwhile, the college has suspended the four students involved in this case on Wednesday after a preliminary inquiry was conducted by an internal committee.
However, a case has been registered at Bagayam police station under IPC section 429 and various sections of Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
