New Delhi, Jan 12: The recent edition of the Fortune Magazine cover of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has irked the Hindus as it portrays him as Hindu god Vishnu. The Indian community in the US are angry over "trivialisation of their venerated deity".

The January edition of the magazine features a story on Jeff Bezos's expansion in India. Titled 'Amazon invades India' relates to the CEO's aim to conquer the next trillion dollar market.

Nevada-based Hindu statesman Rajan Zed said,"Lord Vishnu is a highly revered major deity in Hinduism meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to be used indecorously or thrown around loosely in reimagined versions for dramatic effects."

The cover of the magazine got social media Twitter busy with people lambasting the magazine in strong words.

Fortune Editor-In-Chief Alan Murray, however, apologised instantly and said,"Apologies to those offended."Zed further said,"...inappropriate usage of Hinduism concepts and symbols for pushing selfish agenda or mercantile greed was not okay. Humour is a part and parcel of Hindu society, but there were certain convictions in every tradition, which were venerable and not meant to be taken lightly."

The cover page was created by Sydney-based illustrator Nigel Buchanan, whose clients are The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, MTV. The magazine is published 18 times a year.
