Former Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) legislator Revanth Reddy, who had quit the TDP on Saturday, has joined the Congress party in presence of Rahul Gandhi.

Reddy, who was also TDP's Telangana working president, had last week met party's national president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and submitted his resignation.

According to the reports, over 40 TDP members were set to join Congress along with Revanth Reddy, including Seethakka, Bode Janardhan, Jangaiah Yadav, Vijaya Ramana Rao and C Madhusudhana Reddy, among others. All these leaders have quit the TDP.

Several TDP leaders including state president L Ramna and M Narasimhulu were demanding that Revanth be expelled from the party for his open moves to cross over to Congress.

It is said that the reason for him to switch sides is reportedly because the TDP supremo N Chandrababu was exploring the possibility of a tie-up with TRS for the 2019 general elections.

With 12 of its 15 legislators having defected to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) last year, the TDP is now left with just two MLAs in Telangana.

The Telangana Assembly has 120 seats out of which the ruling TRS has 90 seats and Congress has 13. The TDP had three seats, but Reddy resignation would leave them with just two.
