Flashback 2015: Chennai floods, Assembly elections, protests marked this year

New Delhi, Dec 30: The death of 10 BSF officers in a plane crash, catastrophic floods in Chennai, the Dadri lynching incident, row over beef ban that began in Maharashtra, 'award wapsi' by writers and artistes against "intolerance", the One Rank One Pension besides the Patel quota stir in Gujarat made headlines in the year 2015. Assembly elections brought landslide victory for the AAP in New Delhi and saw the coming together of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad in Bihar.

PDP veteran Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in a coalition with BJP. The demise of technocrat President APJ Abdul Kalam, Sheena Bora murder case and Vyapam admission and recruitment scandal in Madhya Pradesh were other issues that made news.

Jan 4: New Delhi: A probe into the activities of Areeb Majeed, an alleged recruit of the dreaded terror group ISIS, has led National Investigation Agency (NIA) to send requests to the US among other countries for cyber evidence.

Jan 5: New Delhi: The Cabinet approves an ordinance for auction of iron ore and other minerals, yet again opting the emergency route that was adopted for coal, insurance and land acquisition reforms.

Jan 6: New Delhi: Pushing for time-bound effort to stop pollution of the Ganga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says legal actions should be taken against polluting industrial units and suggested setting up of environment- friendly crematoria along the river in achieving the goal.

Jan 6: New Delhi: Delhi Police, which has registered a case of murder in the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar, will send her viscera samples to a laboratory either in Britain or the US to identify the poison including whether it could be radioactive isotopes that cannot be detected in Indian labs.
