Thiruvananthapuram, August 4: With the news of a journalist allegedly joining the ISIS being reported now by the Central Intelligence Bureau, all eyes are on the state of Kerala.

There is a severe undercurrent among a large number of youth in Kerala who have shown their heroics by supporting Jihadi activities.

Groups such as the Students Islamic Movement of India among others with the help of political support are very active and with the ISIS becoming the latest fad, the Kerala police want to stem the rot immediately.

Kerala has had its own share of problems where Islamic terrorism is concerned. It is the state where the Wahabi faith has been instilled in great numbers.

Moreover for the first time that the ISI used a non-Kashmiri fighter from India in Kashmir it was from Kerala.

Kovalam to Kashmir:

It was the year 2008 and the army was engaged in a battle with militants in the Lolab Valley of North Kashmir.

The army managed to kill several militants and one of them was Shakeel Mohammad. He was identified as an operative hailing from Kovalam in Kerala.

Shakeel Mohammad was originally part of the SIMI.

The SIMI infact is aided by 24 different outfits in Kerala which has been actively supporting Jihadi groups, political parties and also the Wahabi faith.

In fact Shakeel was the first non-Kashmiri from India to be part of the war in the Valley.

Never before has the ISI roped in anyone from India (barring Kashmir) to wage the Kashmir battle.

Why the ISIS recruitment is dangerous?

The recruitment of the journalist, Tahir into the ISIS is not just a one off incident.

If one looks at the manner in which the Wahabis have been spreading their tentacles in Kerala, it becomes clear that the plan ahead is a dangerous one.

A senior police official in Kerala tells OneIndia that they are verifying the facts pertaining to the journalist.

We want to ensure that this does not become a trend and all measures to prevent the youth from joining terrorist groups will be curbed.

We are seeing if the journalist is in touch with any locals out here.

We have information that he was in touch with some members of the SIMI in Kerala. The SIMI has nearly 24 other outfits which support it.

We do not want the problem to blow out of proportion the officer also adds.

In the past few years there has been a major attempt to instill the Wahabi faith among a lot of youth in Kerala.

The ISIS subscribes to the Wahabi style of functioning and this is what makes the situation very dangerous, an Intelligence Bureau official informed.

A holiday spot for the Indian Mujahideen:

Kerala has reported various incidents which show that members of terror groups either were born in the state or took refuge.

An incident that took place at Wagamon in Kerala saw the birth of the Indian Mujahideen.

The National Investigating Agency which is probing the case had found that several SIMI members from across the country had assembled at a camp in Wagmon and decided to launch the Indian Mujahideen.

Further it was also found that Indian Mujahideen boss, Yasin Bhatkal had a free run in Kerala as well.

After the 13/7 blasts in Mumbai he and his accomplices had come down to Munnar in Kerala and holidayed for a week. Several terror operatives have found Kerala an easy place to operate in.

IB officials working in Kerala say that the atmosphere in several parts of Kerala especially in the Northern areas is very charged up.

There is a deadly cocktail of politics and crime and in the mix the terrorists tend to have a field day. Take the T Nasir case for instance.

He was the one who allegedly masterminded blasts in Bengaluru in the year 2008.

It was found during the investigations that he was in touch with several local politicians in Kerala who gave him the blessings to go ahead and carry out the blasts.
