SP symbol feud: EC reserves order
Election Commission reserves its order in Samajwadi party's case.
New Delhi, Jan 13: The Election Commission of India on Friday has reserved orders in the Samajwadi Party symbol case. After hearing both factions for nearly four hours on Friday, the ECI said it would pass an order after detailed consideration.
Both the Akhilesh and Mulayam Yadav faction made a strong pitch for the party symbol which is a cycle. Both parties claimed that they had a right over the symbol. The Akhilesh faction argued that the symbol should go to them as they had the required numbers.
The Mulayam faction said that the meeting called by his son in which he was declared the chief of the party was an illegal one and hence they could stake a claim for the symbol.
Earlier in the day, the ECI had indicated that it would pass an order before January 17, the day the filing of nominations starts for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
