‘Filmy’ SP rallies: 1 candidate cries, another beats himself up with shoe
Lucknow, March 3: In the last legs of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, candidates of the ruling Samajwadi Party are entertaining the crowd with some jaw-dropping histrionics. Yes, we really mean it. According to a report by NDTV, at a recent election rally in the state, SP candidate PD Tiwari, who is contesting election from the Barhaj constituency in Deoria in eastern Uttar Pradesh, was seen shedding tears in front of a huge crowd.
On top of that the entire 'drama' was witnessed by incumbent Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who attended the rally to ask votes for Tiwari. The incident happened just after Akhilesh's speech. As soon as the CM finished his address, it was the turn of Tiwari to talk. Instead of speaking a single word, Tiwari started crying like a 'baby'.
Later on, he left the stage as his party colleagues tried to console Tiwari. However, nobody knew why he cried. While a few think he was overwhelmed by Akhilesh's presence, others believe he was upset as Tiwari has been facing backlash from a section of his own party.
Similarly, one more SP candidate did something really unbelievable. He beat himself up with his own shoe in front of voters at an election rally. According to NDTV, Shujat Alam--the SP candidate from Bulandshahr--repeatedly hit himself on his head with his own shoe and begged voters to 'forgive' him for 'mistakes he made unknowingly'. Alam had previously lost two elections from the same constituency.
Probably to avoid a hat-trick, the leader decided to inflict 'self-violence'. We don't know if crying and beating up oneself ensure votes. However, such acts by politicians add masala to the whole election process.
