New Delhi, Jun 11: Despite facing embarrassment from all corners over the arrest of former law minister Jitender Singh Tomar in the case of fake degree, ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi has decided not to take any action against its another MLA Surender Singh, who is facing similar charges.

A senior AAP member was quoted in an ET report as saying, "If his college has been shut down, how is it his fault? We will not start reacting to every complaint that comes against an MLA. The matter is in court and it is for Singh to explain satisfactorily that his papers are in place."

AAP won't act against Surender Singh

BJP leader Karan Singh Tanwar had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court over this matter. Following which, on May 20, Delhi High Court had sent a notice to Singh for possessing a fake degree.

According to Tanwar, "Surender Singh gave wrong information in his affidavit that he did his graduation in B.A. from the Sikkim University in 2012."

Another BJP leader Ashwini Upadhayay has furnished the RTI querry in which the Sikkim University has denied Singh's claim of being enrolled in the university for the BA course in any of its departments.

Responding to an RTI application, Sikkim University said: "With reference to your RTI application, this is to inform you that as per the academic record of the year 2014-2015 and all the past academic years, there is no student by the name of Surender Singh, son of Sher Singh, resident of village Chhara, district Jhajjar, Haryana, for the course of BA in any department of Sikkim University or its affiliated colleges."

Meanwhile, Singh, MLA from Delhi Cantt, has claimed innocence in the case and said that he has all the documents to prove the case in court and also dismissed the petition as "politically motivated".

According to Singh there was a "technical error" in his affidavit and that he completed his graduation from Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (EIILM) University which was established under the Sikkim State Legislature Act. Now, EIILM has found itself under the scanner for distributing "illegal degrees".
