With the results out, Karnataka Governor Valubhai Vala has granted appointments to the two claimants to power - BJP and the JDS-Congress combo. BS Yeddyurappa had met Governor Vajubhai Vala and has left. He has said that he wants to prove BJP's majority on the floor of the Karnataka Assembly.

Even in 2015 BBMP polls, Congress-JDS had joined hands to keep BJP out

However, HD Kumaraswamy, who has been backed by the Congress to be CM, will meet him at 5.30pm. Meanwhile, the Congress had said that if the Governor does not invite the JDS-Congress combo to form government, they would move the court.

As per the latest trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 104 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 77 seats. The Janata Dal (Secular) is at third place with 39 seats.

It may be recalled that, during 2015 BBMP polls, even after BJP winning 100 of 198 seats in the August 22 BBMP polls, Congress bagged 76 seats and managed to win the mayoral elections with the help of JDS support.

Karnataka is ruled by the Congress after the party snatched power in 2013. Months later, in the national election, the BJP won 17 of the state's 28 seats, sweeping all three Lok Sabha seats in Bengaluru.

However, the BBMP results was a lesson to BJP ahead of crucial Bihar Assembly Election that becoming largest party in the poll battle is just not enough.

Now with a similar scenario emerging in Karnataka, the BJP is questioning the Congress on the support it has declared to the JD(S). The Congress is however reminding the BJP of what happened in 2015 BBMP polls.
