Embarrassed JD-U sacks hooch tragedy accused from party

Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday expelled Rakesh Singh,a party leader, after allegations surfaced that he was involved with liquor mafia in the state. He was accused in the Bhojpur hooch tragedy which took place in 2012 in Ara which claimed 29 lives.

Rakesh Singh was expelled after his photo with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar went viral.

Rakesh Singh is the JDU block president of the Udwant Nagar in Bhojpur district. The meeting of Nitish and Rakesh happened on Sunday at 1, Anne Marg which is the Chief Minister's official residence.

Currently, Singh is out on bail.

A day before opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav demanded Nitish Kumar come clean on a selfie with Rakesh Singh.

Rakesh Singh visited the chief minister's residence on Sunday along with Harindra Singh, a retired school headmaster who set an anti-dowry example recently by returning the Rs 4 lakh cash he had received as dowry for his son's wedding.
