The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday approached Delhi's Patiala House Court seeking to declare liquor baron Vijay Mallya a proclaimed offender in Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case.

The court ordered Mallya to appear before it by December 18th. If he fails to appear, he will be declared as a proclaimed offender, said the court.

In October, Vijay Mallya, who currently in London, was arrested in the money laundering case filed by the ED, before being released on bail by Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The 61-year-old flamboyant businessman, already out on bail on an extradition warrant executed by the Metropolitan Police earlier in 2017, was released on the same bail conditions as before to appear for his trial on December 4.

In April, the Delhi court had issued an open ended non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya for allegedly evading summons in a FERA violation matter. An 'open-ended NBW' does not carry a time limit for execution unlike 'NBW'.

The embattled businessman, who has been based in the UK since he fled India in March in 2016, is wanted in India for his erstwhile Kingfisher Airlines' default on loans worth nearly Rs 9,000 crore.
