A grieving Sadananda Gowda says hospitals should have accepted old currency

Despite the Union minister trying to reason with the staff, the hospital refused to accept demonetised currencies to clear pending bills.

Union Minister and Karnataka's former Chief Minister D V Sadananda felt the demonetisation pinch on Tuesday in Mangaluru when a hospital refused to accept demonetised currency notes.

Sadananda Gowda's brother passed away following prolonged illness in a Mangaluru hospital on Tuesday. Despite the Union minister trying to reason with the staff, the hospital refused to accept demonetised currencies to clear pending bills. Close sources of the Minister said that the hospital even refused to accpet cheque following which payments were made through debit cards.

The Union minister said he understood the trouble that people were going through. "It was not right on part of the hospital to refuse old notes. Can understand the trouble people have been caused. Centre has asked for hospitals to accept old notes till November 24", he added.

Sadananda Gowda's brother, Bhaskar Gowda, was admitted to a private hospital in Managaluru 10 days ago for jaundice. Speaking further on the issue D V Sadananda Gowda said, "I have asked the hospital to give me the reason for refusing demonetised currency despite government's order in writing. I will think of the next course of action after they have responded."
