The NSUI on Wednesday won the president's and the vice-president's post in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections while the ABVP won both the secretary and the joint secretary posts. Following NSUI protest, the votes for the joint secretary's post are being recounted.

The NSUI has claimed that cameras were switched off at the counting centre while the votes for secretary and joint secretary were being counted. Following the accusations, recounting of votes is underway for joint secretary post. Reports say that NSUI would approach the High Court demanding recounting of votes.

Police personnel have been deployed in large numbers to prevent untoward incident while the recounting for joint secretary's post is underway.

NSUI members were heard shouting slogans like: "We want recounting" and "We want Justice".

Earlier, the Congress backed NSUI's presidential candidate Rocky Tusheed defeated ABVP's Rajat Choudhary and AISA's Parul Chauha to win the president's post in DUSU elections.

BJP-backed ABVP won Secretary and Joint Secretary posts. ABVP's Mahamedhaa Nagar has won secretary's post.

Rocky Tusheed bagged 16299 while ABVP's Rajat Choudhary got 14709 votes.

The counting of votes for the DUSU elections began today at a community hall near Kingsway Camp in New Delhi amid tight security.

The last time the NSUI swept the DUSU polls was ten years ago in 2007. Since then, it has mostly been a downward spiral, except for 2012 when it won three seats.

There were 126 ballot boxes for the DUSU panel and eight were taken for counting in each round.

Representatives of major students political outfits were present outside the counting centre. A total of 43 per cent turnout was recorded in the DUSU elections held on Tuesday. Last year, the ABVP bagged three posts while NSUI made a comeback, winning the post of joint secretary.
