Drunken driving will land in you jail for ten years
Drink and drive and you will end up paying Rs 10,000 as fine. This provided your drink and drive results in the death of a person. You could also end up with imprisonment of 10 years if convicted in the case. These rules come into force after the Union Cabinet approved the amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act
There are a host of other changes made in the act which makes the rules even more stringent. Here are a list of changes that come into force after the amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act.
Registration of the vehicle in use will be cancelled and, in case of an accident by the juvenile, his or her family will be fined up to Rs 25,000 with or without imprisonment up to three years.
Children above the age of four riding with an adult on a two wheeler will have to wear helmets.
For helmet less riding a fine of Rs 1,000 fine would be imposed. It could also lead to cancellation of licences for three months. A similar punishment has been imposed for jumping a signal or not wearing a seat belt.
A Rs 5,000 fine has been imposed for those who speak on the cell phone while driving.
